VIT School of Law, Chennai

The VIT School of Law (VITSOL), the progeny of VIT University is one of the best Law Colleges in Chennai. It entered the legal arena in 2014, aiming at high goals to be achieved. The Law School aims to impart quality legal education to nourish the young minds with knowledge of law, teach them the nuances of the legal profession and equip them to the nitty gritty of the profession.

The School offers two undergraduate courses viz. B.A., LL.B (Hon’s) and B.B.A., LL.B (Hon’s). It also offers LL.M in three branches of law that include International Law and Development, Corporate Laws and Intellectual Property Laws. Further the School offers a doctoral program.

The school has around 800 students across the courses. The school is run with more than 30 core faculty, with 75% of faculty members holding doctoral degrees in various branches of law, cementing our place as one of the best Law Colleges in Chennai.

Dr. M. Gandhi, Dean VIT School of Law

Dr. Gandhi is M.L and Ph.D in International and Constitutional Laws. With over34 years of experience in handling diverse legal issues in different capacities, Dr. Gandhi has Served as Member Secretary to the High-Level Committee of Government of India to formulate legislation on civil liability for nuclear damage (2001-2002) and submitted a Report to the Department of Atomic Energy. He has also served as Government of India’s Special Adviser to the Government of Mauritius to assess the prospects of its legal claim to Diego Garcia (2001). Dr. Gandhi was one of the counsel’s in the Indian Legal Team led by the former Attorney General of India Mr. Soli J. Sorabjee, filed by Pakistan against India, in the International Court of Justice, The Hague, The Netherlands, (April2000). He Represented India in the VI (Legal) Committee of the United Nations fromMay2002 to January 2006.He has served as legal expert in many international conferences and meetings. He has representation in the multilateral forums and international institutions as member of the Indian Delegation. He has vast experience in negotiation of treaties and agreements. Some of the Fellowships, Prizes and Honours Received by Dr. Gandhi are - L.C. Miller Gold Medal - University of Madras, Madras University Research Fellow, UNITAR Visiting Fellow to Columbia Law School, and Hon. Professor of Law at GNLU.

Admission Process
  • Selection Criteria: LSAT—India, CLAT
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National, and should have studied regular full time and formal education.
    • A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% overall aggregate. The aggregate marks obtained in the subjects in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:
      1. Candidates belonging to SC/ST community
      2. Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir / Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
