VIT School of Law, Chennai

The VIT School of Law (VITSOL), the progeny of VIT University is one of the best Law Colleges in Chennai. It entered the legal arena in 2014, aiming at high goals to be achieved. The Law School aims to impart quality legal education to nourish the young minds with knowledge of law, teach them the nuances of the legal profession and equip them to the nitty gritty of the profession.

The School offers two undergraduate courses viz. B.A., LL.B (Hon’s) and B.B.A., LL.B (Hon’s). It also offers LL.M in three branches of law that include International Law and Development, Corporate Laws and Intellectual Property Laws. Further the School offers a doctoral program.

The school has around 800 students across the courses. The school is run with more than 30 core faculty, with 75% of faculty members holding doctoral degrees in various branches of law, cementing our place as one of the best Law Colleges in Chennai.

Prof. (Dr) M. S.SoundaraPandian, Professor and Dean, VIT School of Law

Prof. (Dr) M. S.SoundaraPandian, Professor and Dean, VIT School of Law, VIT, Chennai Campus, has B.L., and M.L.,(Labour Law and Administrative Law), Madras University, M.A., (Sociology) Annamalai University and Ph.D., (Labour Law), Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University with 34 years of teaching experience. He secured 1st rank in B.L., Madras University examination and awarded UGC Merit Scholarship for M.L., studies during 1981-1983. He was selected as efficient teacher for teaching Honours Law Degree Course by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University. He practiced as an Advocate for 5 years.

He began his academic career in 1988 as Junior Professor initially on contract basis and appointed permanently by service commission in 1989 at Government Law College in Tamil Nadu. He was promoted as Associate Professor in 1998 and appointed as Professor of Law and Director, School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University in 2010 through direct recruitment. Tamil Nadu Government appointed him as the first Registrar of Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirappalli in 2013. On return, he was appointed as Head, Department of Labour and Administrative Law and Director, School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University. He also officiated as Registrar in-charge of the University from January, 2015. On retirement on 30.04.2017, he joined as Principal, Andaman Law College on 02.05.2017 and served there till 11.10.2021. On 27.10.2021, he joined VIT School of Law.

He has diverse experience as NSS program officer for more than 10 years. He was Seminar Director organised five national seminars on various topics of legal importance and one international conference in collaboration with ILO, as patron of Moot Court Association organised six national moot court competitions at Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University, as Senate and Syndicate member of the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University, as Governing Council member of the Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies, Chennai, as member of the inspection team of the Pondicherry University for granting affiliation to its affiliated college, as Project Director organised one week professional Training Program for Law Teachers at Tamil Nadu National Law University in association with National Law School of India University, Bangalore, as Chairman of Law admission for all Government Law Colleges and Dr.Ambedkar Law University in Tamil Nadu for 02 years, as Registrar organised university convocation are noteworthy.

His contributions as Chief Superintendent, Chief Examiner and Chairman of the UG and PG Law Board of Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University and Pondicherry University for more than 10 years are worth mentioning. He participated, presented research papers and chaired technical sessions in various national and international seminars. He is a recognised Ph.D.guide in Law leading to the award of Ph.D. degree. He has guided two research scholars who were awarded with Ph.D. Degree. He is presently guiding 07 scholars for Ph.D. He has published 01 book and 20 research articles in reputed law journals. He was invited as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Speaker for several functions organized by higher educational institutions across the country. He also acted as resource person in Faculty Development Programmes organized by Pondicherry University and Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University. He was selected by the National Council for Assessment and Accreditation and inspected 30 Law Universities/Law Schools/Law Colleges in India so far as member/member coordinator/ Chairman nominated by NAAC for Assessment and Accreditation.

Admission Process
  • Selection Criteria: LSAT—India, CLAT
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National, and should have studied regular full time and formal education.
    • A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State / Central Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 60% overall aggregate. The aggregate marks obtained in the subjects in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:
      1. Candidates belonging to SC/ST community
      2. Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir / Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
