Established in 2003 through the UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand, UPES is a UGC-recognized university and has been accredited grade 'A' by NAAC.
National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, has ranked UPES School of Law among the top 25 institutions in law and ranked among top 100 universities to study in India.
The university has received 5-Stars for Employability (placements), Academic Development, Program Strength and Campus Facilities and, 4-Stars for overall teaching by globally acclaimed QS Rating.

Leadership

Dr. Vijay is a seasoned professional with a great legacy behind him. Before joining UPES, he was heading the School of Corporate Law for three years as Associate Professor in Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), a think-tank and capacity-building institute under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.
Prior to joining IICA, he worked with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) as Deputy Director (Law). During this stint for about five years with the regulator, he worked in the Legal Division and had been actively involved with the capacity building and advocacy activities of the commission including international cooperation.
He is an invited resource person for courses on competition law and policy, international trade laws and corporate affairs in institutions of repute. He is a Life Member of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), the International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR) and the Indian Law Institute (ILI).
