BML Munjal University

Named after the chairman and founder of the Hero Group, Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal, BML Munjal University is engaged in creating, preserving, and imparting internationally benchmarked knowledge and skills to a diverse community of students from across the world. BMU’s aim is to nurture ethical leaders who are skilled, knowledgeable and have the life skills needed to lead organisations to success.

Leadership

Prof. Dr. Nigam Nuggehalli, Dean School of Law

Prof. Nuggehalli was previously a Visiting Professor at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Prof. Nuggehalli has also taught as an Associate Professor in the School of Policy and Governance at Azim Premji University, during which time he also headed the university’s newly founded LL.M programme. Professor Nuggehalli holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford Faculty of Law, an LLM in Taxation from New York University and a BA., LLB (Hons.) from the National Law School of India University.

Before moving to India, Professor Nuggehalli was a Principal Lecturer teaching tax law and commercial law at BPP Law School, London. He led a team of academics in delivering undergraduate programmes in jurisprudence and postgraduate programmes in commercial law and international tax law. Before joining academia, he worked as a tax lawyer in New York and is a member of the New York Bar and the India Bar (Karnataka).

As a lawyer and as a law academic, Professor Nuggehalli has practiced and taught a variety of legal subjects (contracts, commercial law, corporate law, taxation) with reference to the legal regimes in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. He has extensive research and publication experience in legal issues relating to international taxation, commercial law, and statutory interpretation.

He recently published two articles on India and the BEPS project as a part of collected works edited by Dr. Parthasarathy Shome. He has written previously on the Vodafone case and on India-Mauritius tax issues. He was a 2017 ASLI visiting fellow at the National University of Singapore, where he presented a paper on the Indian General Anti-Avoidance Rules. His essay on Indian contract law has been published as part of an international series on contract law by OUP. He is presently completing a monograph on international taxation from an Indian perspective, to be published by Springer.

Admission Process
  • Selection Criteria: LSAT—India, CLAT, BMU-SAT
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Applicants appearing for their class XII examinations from any of the state boards or from any of the Indian education boards recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (This covers CBSE, ISC, and State Education Boards recognized by AIU) are required to have a minimum aggregate of 50% in their class XII final board examinations
    • Cambridge/IGCSE board students are required to have 2 A-levels minimum
    • As per the AIU's current guidelines, all IB Diploma and IB Certificate students with 24 points with 3 subjects at HL and 3 subjects at SL are welcome to apply for the undergraduate courses at BML Munjal University
    • Applicants who are Foreign Nationals/ Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/ Non-Residential Indians (NRIs)/ Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) must have passed the qualifying examination, i.e. Senior Secondary [10+2] or equivalent from any system of education as recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with a minimum aggregate of 50%.
